There’s a mat with your name on it!

We offer Yin Yoga classes on Tuesday afternoons, and Thursday evenings, and a Yin Yoga Flow class on Friday mornings. Classes are suitable for all levels, including absolute beginners.

All classes usually take place in a wonderfully light and airy log cabin with underfloor heating. Numbers are restricted, so pre-booking is essential.

Coronavirus update: All classes are now only available in the comfort of your own home via Zoom. Once you’ve booked, you will be sent a link to log on to the class; it will also be recorded and made available for you to view later (should you wish to do the class at a different time).

Never used Zoom before? It’s really easy! There are details at the bottom of this page to help guide you through the process…

Yin Yoga

Yin yoga is a quiet and simple practice that consists of a series of long-held, passive, floor-based postures (“asanas”). The cabin is ideally suited to yin yoga with its warm floor (it has underfloor heating!) and natural setting in the garden. In the summer, come and listen to the birdsong as the sun sets; in the winter come and enjoy the cocooning effect of the dark sky above (there are large Velux windows in the ceiling) and warm floor below. There are plenty of props (bolsters, blocks, blankets) to support you in every asana to allow you to fully relax and let go.

The four main principles of yin yoga:

  1. Find an appropriate edge: move slowly and gently into the asana; look for an appropriate amount of intensity; never stretch so far as to cause pain
  2. Stillness: consciously try to release into the asana and to remain still without shifting position
  3. Hold the position: you will be guided to stay in each asana between 3 and 5 minutes
  4. Release with care: you will be encouraged to move slowly out of each asana and to really take notice of how your body feels

Benefits of a regular practice:

  • calms and balances the mind and body
  • can help reduce stress and anxiety
  • helps to release tension held with the myofascial network of the body
  • aids deeper relaxation
  • can help restore joint mobility

Yin Yoga Flow

Yin Yoga Flow is a meditative, flowing form of yoga that encourages you to slow down by synchronising your movement to a slow, steady breath. Certain postures (asanas) are held within the sequence and transitions are broken down to help you focus on the balance of strength and flexibility required for each move. Connecting your movement to your breath encourages the practice of mindfulness or staying in the moment.

Yin Yoga Flow is for all ages and for all abilities. All levels of yoga practitioners can find their own personal challenges as they slowly and mindfully move through the series of movements. You will be encouraged to consider if, how and when an asana should be modified with plenty of props available to help ease your body into deeper stretches. While the basic structure of the class is geared towards a moderate level, you are welcome to make the class as gentle or as challenging as you like.

How to use Zoom to watch your yoga class

  • If using a computer, go to https://zoom.us/signup and follow the directions for downloading it. If using your phone or tablet, get the Zoom App (it has a white icon on a blue background). It’s completely free for you to use. It works slightly differently from one device to another, so it’s worth doing a test run before the first session. Don’t worry if you don’t get it to work in time; you will be sent a link to the recording. But try to log in about 10 minutes before so we can sort out any glitches you might have.
  • Once you’ve booked into the class, you’ll be sent a link code, either by email or WhatsApp (if I have your number). Just click on the link code and you’ll be connected to the class.
  • I don’t play music as it doesn’t really work well with Zoom. Please feel free to choose your favourite music or email me for a link to my favourite Spotify playlist. Please put on your music once I start the class when everyone except me will be muted.
  • It’s your choice to be seen or not (i.e. video on or off), but it does help me to direct you in the class if I can see you.
  • The better your wifi or mobile connection (4G is preferred to 3G), the better your experience. So you may have to move around your house/flat to get the best reception.

To book a class, please call Kathryn on 07967 751158, or email kathryn@yogaleamington.co.uk
